Get Involved
The IIF's social mobility work only happens because of the generosity of people across our industry. Whether you have an hour a month or an afternoon to spare, there's a way for you to make a real difference to a young person's future.
Become a Mentor
One hour a month. Twelve meetings a year. A potentially life-changing experience.
Through our partnership with social mobility charity Career Ready, we match industry professionals with talented young people aged 16–18 from underrepresented backgrounds. As a mentor, you'll guide your mentee through career decisions, share your professional perspective and open doors they may not have known existed.
How it works:
You're matched with a student via Career Ready's structured programme
Meetings take place monthly - in your office, a public space or online - supported by a Mentor Handbook to guide your sessions
The programme runs from February to December, with an in-person icebreaker event in January to meet your mentee
A DBS check is arranged through Career Ready
It's also a brilliant way for employers to offer meaningful volunteering opportunities to their teams. In 2025, 40 mentoring relationships were active across the industry, with 100% of students reporting increased confidence by the end.
Talk to Students
You don't need a big time commitment to make a big impression.
Through our Futures For All partnership, industry professionals deliver inspiring talks and sessions directly to young people in schools — helping them picture a future in infrastructure that they may never have considered before.
There are flexible ways to get involved:
Senior leaders can join our in-person school talks programme, going directly into classrooms to share your story
All industry peers can contribute to our webinar series - either by recording content in advance or delivering a live session. Sessions reach students across multiple schools simultaneously, and recorded content is accessible via the Futures For All library for lasting impact
We've reached 1,464 young people so far with 100% saying they gained insight into the infrastructure industry. Your story matters and it doesn't take long to tell it.
Support Our Work Experience Programme
Nothing opens a young person's eyes to what's possible quite like stepping into a professional environment for the first time.
Every summer, the IIF delivers a four-week paid work experience programme for around 40 students, made possible entirely through industry support. In 2025, 41 students took part, hosted and supported by organisations including Infracapital, iCON, PwC, DWS, BlackRock, CBRE and many more. After the programme, 100% of participants said they had developed useful career skills, and 93% felt more confident about their next steps.
We're looking for volunteers and organisations to help us deliver the programme. You could:
Host a site visit at infrastructure assets in or near London
Run a workplace tour to give students a feel for your environment
Provide office space to host sessions
Deliver a workshop - from sub-sector introductions to career journeys and skills development
We support you every step of the way. Get in touch to find out how you or your organisation can get involved.

Support Our Fundraising
Everything the IIF's Social Mobility Initiative delivers from the mentoring and work experience to school talks and webinars exists because of the generosity of our industry at the Annual Gala Dinner.
Sustained fundraising is what allows us to make multi-year commitments to our charity partners - Career Ready, Futures For All and The Access Project - to support them to plan, grow and deliver programmes that genuinely change lives.
There are meaningful ways you can support our fundraising efforts:
Source auction prizes for the Annual Gala Dinner: unique experiences, access and items that inspire competitive bidding and maximise funds raised
Sponsored events: whether that's a 5K, a half marathon, or something more ambitious, you can raise funds for the IIF's Social Mobility Initiative while challenging yourself along the way.
Support other fundraising activity across the year, helping us build momentum beyond the Gala itself
If you have ideas, connections, or resources that could help, we'd love to hear from you. Email info@infraindustryfoundation.com to get involved.
Become an IIF Ambassador
Help us build a movement, not just a programme.
As an IIF Ambassador, you champion our work within your organisation - raising awareness, encouraging colleagues to volunteer and helping social mobility become a permanent feature of our industry.
Ambassadors can also join our Social Mobility Working Group, contributing to the strategic direction of the IIF's programmes throughout the year. It's a chance to shape something that matters and to ensure the infrastructure industry is one where talent, not background, determines who gets a seat at the table.
